Khalidah Akbar

6th-7th Grade Social Studies & English Teacher

Assalamu Alaikum! I'm Khalidah Akbar, Social Studies teacher here at Unity Islamic Academy, and my personal motto has always been "Allahu Akbar — Allah is Bigger, Greater, and More Important." I hold a Master of Education from Grand Canyon University and a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Johnson C. Smith University, and I bring that background to the classroom after previously teaching ELA and Social Studies in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. I love inspiring children to become their personal best by creating learning experiences that build self-motivation, and I'm looking forward to an amazing school year, Insha'Allah.

Outside the classroom, I'm an author of three books, write poetry for empowerment and community events, and serve as CEO of American Muslim 360, Producer of the radio broadcast Narrative Aspirations, and Co-Manager of CWSC's Strategic Family Institute. I try to live by the words of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH): to strive "as in a race towards all that is good," and to perfect whatever I set out to do.
